 Kravitz Report

Whoa.  There's a leaf war on here at the 300-block of Columbia!  We first got wind of it from Sue, frequent visitor of JoAnn next door.  JoAnn's mama passed away earlier this week, just about the time Sue had a heart attack!  Fortunately, it was not fatal, as you may have surmised from the fact that it was Sue herself who reported the first volleys in the war.  Anyway, she's sitting on JoAnn's porch, trying to recover from a heart attack (and they don't let you stay in the hospital even if you ARE having chest pain and have to take nitroglycerine), and observes some interesting goings-on down the block:
Eddy (of "Mike and Eddy") (     )  was seen blowing the leaves off his (& Mike's) yard and across the street, and up the curb, and onto Josh & Stephanie's yard, and The Preacher's yard!!
Sue:  This is a crazy block!
Us:  We can't imagine what Eddy's thinking.  Eddy's such a mild-mannered (  ) seeming fellow.
So this evening, what should occur but a yelling match! between Eddy and the across-the-street neighbors!  Stephanie's words are overheard from the porch at 325:  "Well, some of us work all day, and we don't have time to rake every day!"
The pieces fall into place.  Eddy's irritated that those leaves are blowing across the street onto his yard, and he's just "putting them back."  My goodness, the hullabaloo.
It's just about more excitement than can be tolerated by the Kravitzes.  But we'll persevere, in order to keep bringing you the Kravitz Report.

Sounds quite interesting...raking is overrated anyway.  If we were North, the leaves would at least paint a beautiful mat; down here its just a bit drab.

BTW, you should work on the translation in Wheelock's--Cicero on Friendships p. 29.  We did it today in class.  Quite good...I hope to have them share my love for translating by the end of the year.

Hi! We've talked Latin on this blog before.
OK, here's my wild guess of an attempt at Cicero:
"There are few true friends and few deserving them. True friends are splendid, and remarkably rare. Many of us always understand very little; but few friends are wrong. We are able to say hello a lot and a little, but we don't like to say goodbye; and life is gone."
Well, that was depressing.

OK, my wheelock is at the Storage shed in a box, I'm going to go get it this afternoon.

And . . . the Jonkers are going to have to come this way one of these Friday nights and have porch time over here. there may be some festive orange and black lights up pretty soon, maybe even a few scary pumpkins, too. Of course not before October 1 anyway - I'll wait, but it is one of my favorite seasons - scary AND candy corn!

I love the "I'm just putting them back" line. I feel the exact same way everytime someone walks their dog past my yard and let's said dog spend a little alone time in my yard.

Our accross the street neighbors used to have a tree with the most beautiful fall leaves. They wouldn't even rake them up untill they turned brown (the turned bright colors and stayed that way for a while). Unfortunately, the people who moved in after them immediately cut down that tree. :( oh, well.

well, the Tucks are game. Tell the W'mans thanks for not sharing their green, but we do want to party with them soon. BTW, did you say 4:30 or 5:30 tomorrow night? We wouldn't want to walk in on anything.
